Why 100% Client-Side Image Analysis Matters

Most online image analysis tools force you to upload your personal files to third-party cloud servers, consuming valuable bandwidth and raising serious data privacy concerns.

The Scan Manga Quality Checker uses HTML5 File API and browser memory objects. Your image stays strictly on your computer or mobile device. No bytes are ever transmitted over the network.

The 4 Quality Grades Explained

Quality Grade Vertical Pixels Equivalent DPI Screentone Behavior
Archival Master 4,000+ px 600+ DPI Individual halftone dots are resolved without dot bridging or moiré waves.
High Definition 2,400 – 4,000 px 350 – 550 DPI Clean for 4K displays and physical reprinting; minimal dot distortion.
Standard Digital 1,600 – 2,400 px 230 – 350 DPI Minimum standard for smartphone readers; fine screentones may show faint clamping.
Sub-optimal < 1,600 px < 230 DPI Small dialogue furigana and dense halftones blur into illegible pixel noise.

How to Fix Moiré Warnings

If our inspector detects a moiré risk warning, your image has been scanned or rescaled to an intermediate resolution (such as 300 to 450 DPI) where scanner pixels conflict with printed ink dot frequencies. To eliminate this issue:

  • Rescan the original physical page at a true optical resolution of 600 DPI or 1200 DPI.
  • Ensure your scanner software's "Descreen" filter is completely DISABLED during capture.
  • When downsampling for mobile distribution, use Lanczos or Area Averaging filters rather than Nearest Neighbor.
